Website Redesign

UW Medicine Pathology introduced a redesigned website on November 1st.

For the past year the Pathology Web Committee has been developing a new design for the existing department website that has remained static for over six years. As part of the much needed upgrade, we incorporated many of UW Medicine’s design elements and branding structure to strengthen our relationship with UW Medicine and to capitalize on their marking and outreach efforts for our clinical activities. Special emphasis was placed on our research, teaching and clinical services missions, and the migration of non-public information to the MyPath intranet site. The redesigned site is also much cleaner and more intuitively organized, featuring white background content areas and less clutter with the transfer of internal operational information (e.g. Travel, Reimbursement, Payroll, LTR, etc) to MyPath.

The primary menu tabs along the top of the new website reflect the department’s Academic, Clinical and Research missions, broadly capturing the people, operations, events, programs, and breakthroughs that contribute to the health and well-being of people throughout our community. The new Discoveries section was created to highlight our cutting-edge research, teaching and clinical activities, and to compliment the University of Washington’s vision of “Discovery” being at the heart of our university mission.

The secondary (or “sticky”) menu tabs along the left margin of the new website remain constant on all pages that you visit. The following “sticky” menu items are featured:

  • About UW Pathology - Contains information about our department, basically serving as the department's CV. It will also include pathology resources such as the popular cytogenetics and pathology image galleries
  • Administrative Resources - Contains links to web based resources used by UW Medicine and the UW Medicine Pathology faculty, trainees and staff such as PurchasePATH, Pathology Computer Support, Leave and Time Reporting, and the department’s intranet website, MyPATH
  • News & Events – Current news and upcoming seminars, events, conferences, etc from the department
  • Faculty - Information about our faculty, including alphabetical listing and links to faculty profiles
  • Community Outreach - Information on the department’s community outreach activities
  • Donate – Direct link to the various Pathology gift funding opportunities
  • Contact Us - How to get in touch with UW Medicine Pathology
  • Search - Search function for our website.

The new site will only be as dynamic and informative as the people that contribute content on a regular basis. It is an organic site that will grow and change daily with the active participation and support of the content providers and managers that take ownership of new and existing sections of the UW Medicine Pathology website. Please contact Steve Berard at 685-0564 or sberard@u.washington.edu if your area of expertise needs to be created or updated.

South Lake Union Streetcar

Come celebrate the grand opening of Seattle’s first modern streetcar! Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, with music, refreshments, and opening remarks by Mayor Nickels. The mayor will then lead the streetcar inaugural run and “break” the ribbon, followed by the official start of passenger service. Streetcar rides will continue to be free for the rest of December, conveniently connecting downtown, the Denny Triangle, and South Lake Union.

The grand opening celebration will take place along the streetcar route. Starting from the Westlake Hub (Westlake Ave & Olive Way), passengers can pick up a fun South Lake Union Passport to explore the neighborhood and collect stamps from participating businesses. Riders can turn in their completed passports to win fantastic prizes at the South Lake Union Discovery Center. Continue on to the Pan Pacific Station at 2200 (Westlake Ave & Denny Way) and stations along Westlake Ave for more festivities and giveaways.

During the entire weekend following grand opening day, passengers can also ride the streetcar down to the Lake Union Park station to experience a free ride on a classic sail or steamboat from the Center for Wooden Boats.

Don’t miss this momentous celebration of a Seattle milestone! To learn more about the Seattle Streetcar, visit: http://www.seattlestreetcar.org/about/. Or, to learn about the proposed city-wide streetcar network, visit: http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/streetcarnetwork.htm.
