Clues to the diagnosis of dysplasia
Areas with mucin depletion
Lower power view will allow detection of areas with mucin depletion.
|
Areas with abundant mucin production
Areas involved by Barrett's metaplastic epithelium with
abundant mucin production should alert the pathologist to look carefully
for dysplastic nuclei.
|
The hypermucinous areas may resemble colonic mucosa.
Based on the nuclear features, a diagnosis of "indefinite for dysplasia"
or "low-grade dysplasia" may be warranted in this case.
