2nd Annual Dermatopathology ConferenceThe Department of Pathology, in collaboration with the Washington State Society of Pathologists, hosted the 2nd Annual Dermatopathology Conference on May 22, 2004 at the University of Washington Health Sciences Center. Nearly one hundred pathologists, dermatologists and residents from around the Pacific Northwest attended the conference. The annual Dermatopathology Conference is the culmination of the educational vision and dedication to consultative dermatopathology of Dr. Zsolt Argenyi, Director of Dermatopatholgy Services at UW. The highlight of the conference this year was the presentation and case review by internationally recognized dermatopathologist, Dr. A. Bernard Ackerman, Director of the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology in New York. The interactive format of the conference, including an online Self-Assessment Test and spirited case review discussions, exemplified the Department of Pathology and the School of Medicine's mission is to improve the health of the public by advancing medical knowledge and preparing tomorrow's physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals. Residents from the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Oregon Health and Science University were encouraged to participate in the online Self-Assessment Test. Residents receiving the highest scores were awarded their choice of one of Dr. Ackerman's definitive texts on dermatopathology. Pathology Resident Stacey Berry won the contest with other top finishers also representing the University of Washington Department of Pathology, namely Drs. Charlie Sthapanachai, Bridget Nixon, and Greg Wogamot. The date for the 3rd Annual Dermatopathology Conference will be announced later this year. Visit the 2004 conference web site
