Description

The program offers the postgraduate trainee advanced training in diagnostic cytopathology, including interpretation of gynecologic, and non-gynecologic specimens. Fellows also participate in resident teaching and research. The one-year fellowship is at Harborview Medical Center. 1 position/year

Requirements

Applicants are expected to have completed the training required for certification in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. This requirement may be waived by the Program Director in exceptional cases.

Program Aims

  • In-depth training of pathologists in cytopathology so that they develop excellent clinical skills, critical thinking, evidence-based practice and are well attuned to the advances and changing demands of the profession.
  • Mentoring the trainee in translational research projects with the goal of presenting their work at a national meeting(s) and publishing their work in a peer-reviewed journal(s).  
  • Developing subspecialty-focused teaching skills to enable the fellow to serve as a competent mentor to junior trainees.
  • Providing exposure to cytology management and quality assurance.

Stipend & Benefits

Appointment is for one year. Stipend and benefits are based on the schedule for residents at an equivalent level. Fellows are encouraged to apply for extramural funding if additional research training is desired.
