Clinical Fellowships

Fellowship programs are based at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) and its affiliated hospitals of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), which offer tertiary-level care serving the five-state region of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. Our training programs provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis of disease using standard diagnostic practices, as well as specialized techniques including immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, and flow cytometry. Fellows are involved in the teaching mission of our programs by working with residents and medical students and presenting at clinical conferences. Clinicopathological research is strongly encouraged for all programs. All positions are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or appropriate subspecialty board.

Applicants need to be eligible for American Board of Pathology certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology. Dermatopathology candidates may be eligible for American Board of Dermatology certification. Neuropathology candidates may be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited anatomic pathology training program. Throughout the training period, residents should discuss career options with the fellowship program director or faculty advisor.

Our application deadline for our ACGME fellowships is October 1st, except for Hematopathology. The Hematopathology Fellowship deadline is August 15th. Filled positions are listed below.

Instructions for Application

Candidates need to submit electronic documents for their application packet.  We accept .doc, .jpg, .pdf and .tif documents as attachments to our fellowship email address. We do not accept .zip files. Letters of reference can be sent by email attachment as well as long as they are on department letterhead and sent directly from the writer's office email OR administrative office email. If you or your references send electronic documents, please do NOT send paper documents. This wastes paper and hinders our ability to process your application in an expeditious manner. Click the link below for specific information about our requirements and applicable forms.
