Description
Why Attend?
Measles in the immunocompromised: Lessons from an autopsy
Measles, a highly contagious illness, was considered eradicated in the United States in 2000 due to the success of widespread vaccination. Despite this, the increasing trend toward delayed vaccination or vaccination refusal has led to a resurgence of measles cases. This is the widely publicized case of the first measles fatality in the US since 2003. We will discuss the unique clinical, histopathological, and laboratory features of measles in immunocompromised individuals (a steadily increasing population) and the diagnostic challenges the pathologist may face.
