Description

Diffuse lung diseases in children, also called children’s interstitial lung disease (chILD), comprise entities that differ significantly from adult ILD.  Areas of dissimilarity are particularly apparent within neonates and young children, who are likely to present early in life with primary disorders of lung development, deficient lung growth and genetic abnormalities in surfactant production and homeostasis. We shall discuss the distinctive features of these rare disorders and our evolving understanding of their pathogenesis.
