Clinical and Research Background

Dr. Zhang’s background is in cardiology and mitochondrial biology. He is extremely interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of age-related cardiac function decline in an effort to find ways to rejuvenate the aging heart. His research focuses on studying aging mitochondrial dysfunction and mechanisms of SS-31 (Elamipretide) effects on mitochondrial energetics at multiple dimensional levels: molecular, organelle, cellular, organ, and whole organism.
