Dr. Laflamme is a physician-scientist in the Center for Cardiovascular Biology and the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, which are located at the UW’s South Lake Union campus. Dr. Laflamme is broadly interested in the use of stem cells for cardiac repair, but his laboratory is particularly focused on 1) characterizing the electrophysiological properties and mechanisms of excitation-contraction coupling in stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes, 2) elucidating the pathways controlling subtype specification (i.e. nodal versus ventricular differentiation) in these cells, and 3) determining the electrocardiographic consequences of cell transplantation on the recipient. In addition to this research program, Dr. Laflamme practices diagnostic cardiovascular pathology.
