Clinical and Research Background
Dr Shuja received her medical education at King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. She acquired her residency and fellowship training and Ph.D. in Pathology, at Boston University, Boston, MA.
Prior to her current appointment as Clinical Professor in Department of Pathology at Washington University, she worked as Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Medicine, and later as Associate Professor at University of Florida, College of Medicine-Jacksonville.
Her clinical practice has encompassed multiple subspecialties of Pathology including surgical pathology and cytopathology. Her subspecialty interests have included oncologic neuropathology, skeletal muscle biopsies, thyroid and endocrine, lung, gastrointestinal, gynecologic and breast pathology.
Dr Shuja has been involved in cancer research looking for diagnostic and/or therapeutic markers that could be utilized in the diagnosis and/or management of patients with pre-neoplastic lesions and cancers. Her collaborative research work on tumor markers, through the years has been particularly related to colonic and thyroid neoplasms, among other cancers.
