Clinical Training

Subspecialty clinical training in diagnostic cardiovascular pathology can be arranged for candidates who have completed 2 years of training in Anatomic Pathology. The University of Washington has a very active program in heart failure and cardiac transplantation, including ~40 heart transplants per year. There are currently 4 attending cardiovascular pathologists who participate in clinical training (Chuck Murry, Dennis Reichenbach, Kelly Smith, Mike Laflamme). Areas of diagnostic training include cardiac transplant pathology, endomyocardial biopsies, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy and cardiovascular devices.
