Telomeres

We have used confocal microscopy and PNA QFISH to measure telomere lengths in a variety of tissues, including ulcerative colitis and the human colon during aging (Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, accepted for publication). We have carefully examined a number of methods for analysis of these images, and have described our conclusions in this report. The algorithms described in this report were implemented using a commercial image analysis platform, Optimas, however we have recently replaced this with custom-written stand-alone software. This program, written by Mike W-T Shen in our laboratory, performs the same tasks and algorithms, but in a streamlined and more efficient fashion. It is available for download here.
