Alvord, Jr. MD, Professor Emeritus Cheng-Mei Shaw, MD, Professor Emeritus Description: This two-year accredited training program is staffed by faculty in the University of Washington Affiliated Hospital system which provides over 400 autopsies and over 1,400 neurosurgical biopsies each year. The program is designed to provide materials, facilities and experiences in various normal and abnormal aspects of the nervous system. The faculty's research interests include developmental neurobiology, cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, neurotoxicology, neurodegeneration, trauma, and neoplasia. Several faculty members within the Division of Neuropathology have well-funded laboratories that are open to interested trainees. Typical Schedule Requirements: Medical school students seeking training in the Anatomic Pathology/Neuropathology (AP/NP) track, will complete two years of anatomic pathology residency training and two years of neuropathology fellowship training. Applicants need to meet the requirements for application to the overall residency program. Applicants who have completed Anatomic Pathology residency training, are expected to be eligible for certification by the American Board of Pathology. This requirement may be waived by the Program Director in exceptional cases. Stipends:Appointment is for one year and is subject to renewal for a second year. Stipend and benefits are based on the schedule for residents at an equivalent level.
