GRADUATE PROGRAM IN MOLECULAR BASIS OF DISEASE

Application Process For US Students

Applications must be completed by January 1 to ensure consideration for admission in the following summer or fall quarter. In some cases, late applications will also be considered. Notification of action on application is given by April 15th. In special circumstances, applications from highly qualified individuals will be considered at other times of the year. Highly ranked applicants will usually be scheduled to visit with members of the department and be interviewed by members of the Pathology Graduate Faculty in Seattle. Top-ranked applicants will usually have their travel expenses paid for by the Department.

How to Apply

Applicants must apply to BOTH the Department of Pathology AND the Graduate School of the University of Washington. Apply to the Graduate School via the Web, and please be sure to send a copy of that application to the Department of Pathology along with the other required application material. A copy of the Graduate School's Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program application serves as the Pathology program application.

Send the Following Materials to the Pathology Department

University of Washington
Box 357470
Seattle, WA 98195-7470
  1. Copy of your Graduate School Application
  2. Official Transcripts
  3. Official GRE Scores. We also recommend that you take the Subject Test in Biology or related area.
  4. Statement of purpose and research interests. Describe you research interests, goals, and research experience. It is helpful if you identify several faculty members whose research program is particularly attractive to you.
  5. Letters of recommendation. Three or more are preferable. These should address the applicant's capabilities as a potential investigator in addition to commenting on academic or other qualifications. This program does not provide a 'recommendation letter form' or insist that a specific format be used. Each letter writer may use their own format, and focus on those areas they feel are important about you. Providing these letters to you in sealed/signed envelopes for you to include with your application is perfectly acceptable. The letter writers may also mail their letter directly to the program address.
  6. Provide a personal statement that addresses the relationship between your personal background and your aspirations.
