Lindsey Scaggs, New AP Program Assistant
Please welcome Lindsey Scaggs, the new UWMC Anatomic Pathology Program Assistant. Lindsey joined the AP team earlier this year, working in the Slide Room before beginning her new position in October. Lindsey recently moved back to Seattle from Bellingham, where she graduated in June with a B.A. in American Cultural Studies at Western Washington State University. Although she didn't plan on working in a hospital after college, she feels UWMC is a great place to start.

Lindsey enjoys the diverse environment and appreciates the warm welcoming from the entire pathology department. Her current plans are to learn Spanish, and in the future, obtain her masters in counseling and hopes to someday work for higher education in student services helping students with disabilities. Lindsey is a fun-loving gal who considers herself a movie snob. With help from her brother, Lindsey hopes to one day write and direct their own film, which will no doubt be a hilarious and deeply moving film.
Arleen Fabunan, New Pre/Post Grants Manager
Arleen Fabunan officially joined the Department of Pathology on November 1st, providing much needed to support for the Department's grants management team. Arleen previously worked in a similar capacity for the Department of Genome Sciences. Her main responsibilities will be in the area of pre-award grants management. Arleen will also handle some post-award grant maintenance in addition to training other grant supervisors.

Congratulations are in order for Kim Simmons, UWMC Anatomic Pathology Administrator, on the ocassion of her appointment as National Society for Histotechnology Convention Chair. As Chair of the Convention Committee, Kim will be busy coordinating the annual Symposium/Convention, featuring basic to advanced workshops, clinical, veterinary, industry and research presentations, keynote/international speakers, scientific exhibits of laboratory equipment, products and supplies, official meetings of the governing boards and committees, and the awards banquet. Microsoft Updates
Did you know? Microsoft recently released a new version of its popular internet browser, Internet Explorer version 7 (a.k.a. IE7). What you may not know is on November 1st Microsoft added this new version to the Windows Update web site with a status of "High Priority". This status means the update will automatically download and install on all machines that have "Automatic Updates" correctly configured. You may have already seen the update on your home computers. On PCS managed computers, we made the decision to block the automatic installation of IE7 for now. We want to verify compatibility with all UW systems before we allow a large scale rollout. There are already several application issues being worked out on campus. We'll revisit the upgrade in January.

Click here for a quick tour of Internet Explorer 7.
