SERVICES

The pathology & histology services provided are the following:
  1. Fixation of tissue specimens: The goal of fixation is to preserve the cells and tissue constituents without artifice. The laboratory provides various fixatives to researchers based on specimen requirements.
  2. Processing of tissue specimen: Using an automatic tissue processor.
  3. Embedding of tissue specimen: Leica EG1160 embedding center used for rapid paraffin embedding of tissue. We also do JB-4 embedding.
  4. Section of tissue blocks: Cutting of sections an excellent technician with microtome. The Microtomes are mechanical devices for cutting thin unifrom slices of tissue sections (usually 2-5 μm).
  5. Staining of tissue sections: Staining tissue sections is to visualize specific tissue constituents. The laboratory provider referenced and described stains for researcheres to define their research objectives, including: Hematoxylin and Eosin Stain (H&E). See special stain page.
Frozen Section of Tissue Specimen The laboratory provides techniques to freeze freshly obtained tissue specimens. This technique is useful for two purposes: (1) the demonstration of fats, lipids, and special tissue components; and (2) for rapid preparation of section for immunocytochemistry or microdisection of tissues. Specemins are frozen in O.C.T block by imersion into liquid nitrogen at -270°C. Cutting sections is accomplished in a commercial cryostat microtome at -25°C. We cut regular sections and floating sections.
Enzyme Histochemistry: See special stain page.
Immunocytochemistry: as requested by individual researcher. DAB reactions or Alkaline phosphates procedure are provided.
